Marie obtained her PhD in Zoology from the University of Vienna in collaboration with the University of Hawaii, where she studied the evolution and development of the cephalopod arm crown. From there she was recruited to the Italian Institute of Technology in Genova, Italy to examine the development and regeneration of the octopus muscular arm. Her new found interest in regenerative biology eventually drew her back to the US, where she studied tendon regeneration in zebrafish at the Mass General Hospital and Harvard Medical School in Boston. Marie joined the BMC series as a Locum Associate Editor of BMC Ophthalmology, BMC Gastroenterology and BMC Zoology in 2022. She is based in the London office.

Benoît Goossens is the Director of the Danau Girang Field Centre in the Lower Kinabatangan Wildlife Sanctuary, a research and training facility co-managed by Sabah Wildlife Department and Cardiff University, where he leads projects on biodiversity responses to habitat fragmentation and degradation. Benoit is also a Professor at Cardiff University and a member of the IUCN SSC’s Asian Wild Cattle, Crocodile, Asian Elephant and Primate Specialist Groups.
Dr Brock Fenton, Emeritus Professor of Biology, University of Western Ontario
After finishing a Ph.D., he held academic jobs at Carleton University, Canada, York University, Canada and the University of Western Ontario, Canada. Brock's research has focused mainly on bats across the spectrum from behaviour and ecology to echolocation and evolution, and conservation. Ongoing work on structure and function mainly relying on digital photography of bats in action. Brock joined the editorial board of BMC Zoology as Section Editor in 2016.
